This year marks the fifth anniversary of Hungary’s first Miyawaki forest in Tabán, and for the first time, a conference was held on the local experiences of Akira Miyawaki, the world-renowned Japanese botanist.
The conference was initiated by the 10 Million Trees Foundation in collaboration with ELTE Together for Environmental Awareness, after the foundation has already planted thirty mini-forests in Budapest with the help of volunteers over the past few years, and they have reached fifty nationwide. Additionally, several dozen mini-forests have been planted across the country by other organizations and local governments.
The foundation’s leader, Iván András Bojár, stated that wherever possible, we should break up the concrete and plant as many of these oases as we can, as it has been proven worldwide over the past 50 years that thanks to their rapid growth, they can create climate-adaptive habitats in cities within just a few years.
