It can be said without exaggeration that Miyawaki mini-forests have become the stars of urban tree planting in recent years. They are small, dense, biodiverse, rapidly growing, climate-adaptive, and capable of surviving in concrete jungles, representing a true habitat.
At the conference, those who shape urban greening both on the ground and at the decision-making level will discuss the experiences of domestic Miyawaki projects over the past five years, with insights from Japanese and European examples.
Gardeners, municipal actors, scientific researchers, and company representatives will examine, from a systemic perspective, the environmental and urban structural conditions under which this model can truly be viable.

BACKGROUND: MIYAWAKI MINI-HISTORY
Just five years ago, the first Miyawaki mini-forest was established in Hungary:
the FŐKERT created the first 40 m² mini oasis in Tabán. This planting method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, has a history of just over fifty years internationally and was initially met with skepticism by many.
Today, Miyawaki mini-forests have become one of the most successful forms of urban tree planting:
Thanks to their rapid development, high biodiversity, and climate resilience, they improve the microclimate, create habitats, and establish real, functioning ecosystems even in urban areas that lack green spaces and are densely built.
