This year, we will plant tens of thousands of trees with your help!
Our national community was established in the summer of 2019, with local groups found in several counties across Hungary, in both larger cities and smaller villages. Our goal is to collectively plant as many trees as possible in the country, thereby contributing to the improvement of the Earth’s climate. Preparing, organizing, and fully executing the plantings is also a very important step in this process. In 2021, we reached our first major milestone, as the number of our plantings had already exceeded one hundred thousand by then. And we did not slow down in 2022 either. In fact, by the end of last year, we had planted nearly two hundred thousand trees and over forty thousand shrubs, thanks to our community and our partners.
A diverse range of people, companies, and local governments were motivated in 2022 to make Hungary and the world a better place
What unites us all is our belief in the power of cooperation and our mission: each of us must leave at least one tree behind, as this way we will not remain passive observers of climate change.
In 2022, we planted a total of approximately fifty-seven thousand trees and shrubs,
In collaboration with Electrolux, for example, the Green Action Group in Nyíregyháza planted thirty older trees, while our group in District XXII, in partnership with DM, received support from the local government as well: we established fifty square meters of so-called Miyawaki forest together. In this area, as many native trees and shrubs as possible were planted to encourage the young plants striving for sunlight to engage in vibrant competition for light, allowing them to develop at a much faster rate than average. Staying in the district, there were also promising changes on Eperlevél Street, where, with the contribution of Smart Deployment Ltd., we created a multi-aged wooded buffer zone by planting a total of 165 trees and shrubs.
In some places, the 10 Million Tree Foundation planted nearly 20 thousand seedlings
The foundation also achieved successful results regarding central plantings. Last spring, we planted a total of 228 mature trees in Budapest. In Káposztásmegyer and Rákoshegy, in cooperation with Főkert, we planted 18 thousand, in Bátmonostor in Bács-Kiskun County 13,800, and in Boráros Square in the capital, we planted sixty square meters of (Miyawaki method) forestry seedlings.
In collaboration with the local government of District II, we planted 61 mature trees, and with the local government of District IX – in partnership with Henkel – we planted fifty mature trees in Madaras Park. With the contribution of GreenGo – supplemented by the Swimathon fundraising – we created eighty square meters of Miyawaki forest on Lenhossék Street in District IX, planting a total of 320 trees and shrubs.
Excavation of water-retaining ditches, restoration programs, and tree planting in school gardens
In the area, we participated in an ecological restoration program with the contribution of One Tree Planted, during which we planted 24 mature trees and 1,500 forestry seedlings, along with the excavation of water-retaining ditches and the construction of fences. In Dombfalva (Domonyvölgy), thanks to One Tree Planted, xForest, and its readers, we created a multi-aged, high-biodiversity grove at the end of November as part of a landscape reconstruction program, surrounded by wildlife protection fencing, using several methods to help the plants (1,000 forestry seedlings, 20 mature native trees, and 12 mature native fruit trees) survive during drought periods.
We started last November, and our joint program with K&H will continue until the end of May, during which we will plant 555 trees and 1,100 shrubs in the gardens of one hundred schools across the country. Currently, the planting is at 30%. Our project in the XVII district, Szöcske rét, is also progressing well, where we are establishing a grove forest. In the area managed by Főkert, we will place approximately 4,000 trees and shrubs. The planting is already in an almost completed state.
We are planting trees and ideas
The results of the 10 Million Trees Foundation from last year show that more and more people are joining our initiative, and whether in smaller or larger teams, it truly pays off to come together and plant new vegetation, thus contributing a little to the fight against the climate crisis.
The goal remains unchanged: “We want to ensure that every person in Hungary plants at least one tree during their lifetime. To achieve this, we would like to win as many partners as possible, as we believe that beyond the plants that assist in biodiversity and climate crisis management, we can also plant ideas that will help us go much further,” says Iván András Bojár, the founder of the 10 Million Trees Foundation, who also expressed his immense gratitude to everyone who participated in the work in 2022.
Join us in achieving common goals!
Our clear goal for 2023 is to surpass our previous numbers, and we welcome inquiries from individuals and companies eager to contribute. Of course, nowadays, you can plant a tree without a shovel; you can donate 1% using our tax number: 19225294-1-42, or you can also contribute through the Action Network. Those who would like to offer their work as volunteers or their land for planting can find all the information on the 10 Million Trees website!
